Sunda Stink Badger (Mydaus javanensis)
Also known as the Teledu, Malay or Javan stink badger or the Indonesian stink badger, the Sunda stink badger is not a badger but a species of skunk found on the Islands of Borneo, Java and Sumatra. Like other skunks the Sunda stink badger is a nocturnal omnivore and feeds on small insects and other small invertebrates. The Sunda stink badger is notoriously known for the foul smelling liquid which it can secret from its anal gland, which is especially strong when compared to other skunk species.

Fifteen rape victims have formed martial arts movement and are prepared to confront abusers if no one listens to their complaints…A GROUP of women are fighting back against the sickening culture of rape which they say infects India. Fifteen determined females – all victims themselves – have trained in martial arts and are prepared to hand out rough justice if no one listens to their complaints. And the movement, called the Red Brigade, is growing rapidly following the gang rape and murder of medical student Jyoti Singh Pandey that horrified the world. In a nation where a woman is reportedly raped every 20 minutes, the group’s leader Usha Vishwakarma said: “We are fighting back – and the boot is now on the other foot.” Member Sufia Hashmi, 17, said: “We’ve caught a lot of men recently. I joined because men always used to pass comments on me and touch my body but now we beat them and they run.”Like the other members in the northern city of Lucknow, 25-year-old Usha has first-hand experience of the daily dangers women face in the huge nation – a teacher tried to rape her when she was 18. She said: “He grabbed me and tried to open my trousers. I kicked him in the crotch and ran.” Usha complained to staff but they told her to forget it and allowed her attacker to carry on teaching. She said: “Many parents tell girls to quit school so there will be no sexual violence. But we said no – this has to stop. We decided to form a group to fight for ourselves, not just complain.” MORE

Alud (Landslip)
Performance, 2011
Regina José Galindo
the artist’s words:
Water runs.
The body is there, dirty.
The public’s position as observer is replaced by the action of participating and cleansing the body. Motivated, perhaps by some empathy for the unknown individual, hidden behind the mud.Last year, MOLAA had Regina Jose Galindo’s exhibition Vulnerable, on view. It was comprised of documentation objects, including photographs and videos of some of her most significant performances as well as the stage and documentation of a live performance that took take place during the opening of the exhibition, which was specifically created for MOLAA by her.

“The blue-eyed black lemur (Eulemur flavifrons) is one of the world’s 25 most endangered primates—and is the only known non-human primate with truly blue eyes (as an adult). With less than 2,000 specimens left in the wild, zoos and wildlife sanctuaries are trying to develop programs to ensure its survival. Dimbi [pictured] is a blue-eyed lemur cub born on April 19 at the Mulhouse Zoo and Botanical Gardens in Alsace, France.”

Glass Beach, Northern California
From 1950 to 1967, residents of Fort Bragg, California chose to dispose of their waste by hurling it off the cliffs above a beach. No object was too toxic or too large such as household appliances, automobiles, and all matter of trash were tossed into the crashing waves below, eventually earning it the name The Dumps. Then in 1967, city leaders closed and reclaimed the beach. Various cleanup programs were undertaken.
Over the next several decades, the pounding waves cleaned the beach by breaking down everything but glass turning the sand into a sparkling, multicolored bed of smooth glass stones. The California Department of Parks and Recreation purchased the land and incorporated it into MacKerricher State Park in 2002.

Buddha Park, also known as Spirit City (Xieng Khuan), is a sculpture park located 25 km southeast of Vientiane, a small city that sits along the Mekong River in Laos. The park was started in 1958 by Luang Pu Bunleua Sulilat who was a priest-shaman.
